San Diego Zoo
A fine example of advanced progressive technology being used for animal and nature conservation is the San Diego Zoo in Balboa Park, at San Diego in California. It might amaze you to know that this zoo houses an enormous 4,000 animals spread over 800 species and boasts of many unique animals like the Giant Panda which are rarely found at any zoos across the globe.
The high quality maintenance of the zoo and the dedication shown towards the animals by the staff and others is largely due to the fact that the zoo is run by a non profit organization. Spread over a 100 acres, San Diego Zoo also has an enormous collection of plants, over 700,000 of them.
For the nature enthusiast, the zoo offers various means of traversing in the park to enjoy the natural scenic beauty. Apart from Guided Tour buses that cover almost 75% of the area, there is also an overhead gondola that can be used to tour the park and catch a top bottom view of the most magnificent and amazing animals of the world.
Amongst the most popular exhibits in the zoo are the Monkey Trails and Forest Tales that showcase monkeys and other exotic rainforest animals of Asia and Africa in environment similar to the wild nature that they are used to and adapted for. Clouded Leopards, Pygmy Hippo, turtles and pancake tortoises are a few exotic animal species that make this trail their home. As far as the botanical aspect of this trail goes, you can see the fiscus tree and bog garden.
As of September 2008, the San Diego Zoo was amongst the only four zoos in the entire United States of America to house a Giant Panda, a huge and beautiful animal that is by far the most exciting attraction in the zoo. The entire Panda Research Station at the zoo is one of the most successful in the reproduction of the amazing animals and the first two giant panda cubs that have been born and who have successfully survived in America are from here.
The San Diego Zoo offers a unique experience to all the people by allowing them to be a part of the zoo. One can become a member and avail good benefits like unlimited admission in the zoo, free guest passes, discount coupons and a lot more.
The zoo opens at 9 in the morning and the closing time depends from season to season. Notice the schedule when you travel San Diego CA.
