San Diego State University Football Program General Information

The Aztecs is the football team of the San Diego State University and it represents their school for the NCAA FBS Division 1 and is a member of the Mountain West Conference. As of now, the head coach for the football team Aztecs is Brady Hoke and he serves as the 17th head coach of the football team. Qualcomm stadium is the home stadium of the team.

The football program of the university had began back in 1921 but the students could not compensate the number of players required with the capacity to play which is why some of their faculty members had also joined the team. In 1926 the team had joined the Southern California Conference where it suffered a losing streak for 10 years in the game of football but other sports had been quite successful. The team then joined the California Collegiate Athletic Association then later joined the NCAA championship.

The football team of San Diego State University had given birth to some of the finest football players in the United States. They had several players that had already joined NFL and some even became coaches in the National Football League as well. Joe Gibbs, for instance, is the head coach for the Redskins and he's a former player of the Aztecs. John Madden of the Oakland Raiders was also an assistant coach of the Aztecs. Don Coryell, Ted Tollner, and John Fox are just some of the big names in NFL that all came from the Aztecs football program of the San Diego State University.
