San Diego Aquarium: An Ideal Destination for Your Family Vacation

San Diego Aquarium, actually known as Birch Aquarium has been set up by Cripps Institution of Oceanography for the public to explore the beautiful under water world. Over 55 habitats of invertebrates and fishes are on display from the Pacific waters. The Aquarium is also home to the interactive museum which displays an array of scientific discoveries by the scientists of Scripps Institute pertaining to earth, ocean and climate. Their mission is to preserve the ocean life by creating awareness in the human beings regarding the same.

The most striking exhibit of Birch Aquarium is the interactive set up of tracking the climatic changes in the entire globe. Find out how the scientists track the major changes, watch astonishing images depicting the changes in the environment and learn the key role played by the ocean in all this. You can also assess your knowledge about global warming. Learn about the mysterious seahorses in the interactive exhibit named as 'There's Something About Seahorses'. Watch seadragons and pipefish and unfurl the mystery behind their creation.

Other exhibits include Coral Displays, Whales, Tide Pool and Hall of Fishes. You will be mesmerized by the colorful coral reefs and their residents which include giant clams, chambered nautilus and lionfish. In the Hall of Fishes, you will be able to see different species inside a 70,000 gallon container. Whale watching is possible inside another 13,000 gallon reservoir. At the Tide Pool, you will be watching lobsters, seastars, sea cucumbers and Kermit crabs. In the Wonder of Waters section, you are invited to create ripples and rapids in the water with the help of apparatuses.

The San Diego Aquarium also runs education programs and hosts events regularly. It remains open daily from 9 am to 5 pm. Tickets for adults cost $12 and for children it is $8.50. There is also a bookshop and gift shop inside the aquarium. This is indeed an ideal venue for tourists to enjoy and at the same time educate themselves.
