Qualcomm Stadium Parking Information

Formerly known as San Diego Stadium and Jack Murphy Stadium, Qualcomm Stadium opened on August 20, 1967 with the first game played by the San Diego Chargers. The multi-purpose stadium is located in the Mission Valley area in San Diego, California. Now the NFL's San Diego Chargers and the San Diego State University Aztecs college football team play home games at the Qualcomm Stadium. It was also home of the MLB's San Diego Padres by 2003.

Now, the stadium is the site to host the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl college football games every December. The Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl is also hosted at the stadium in December. The Stadium also played host to some other outstanding sports events, like the World Series in 1984, the 1978's and 1992's Major League Baseball's All-Star Game and the NFL Super Bowl XXII in 1988. The sports facility hosts some popular events, including concerts, super-cross motorcycle races, circuses and auto racing etc.

Qualcomm Stadium is situated northwest of the intersection of I-8 and I-15, providing easy access to the stadium from several directions. Parking Tips:

- With only 19,000 parking spaces for 71,000 seats at Qualcomm Stadium, the stadium parking lot fills up quickly before the start of the event. This is especially true for events with large attendance. To ensure availability, you're recommended to get to the stadium at least three hours before the event.

- If you arrive late and the parking lot is closed, you can proceed to one of the Mission Valley trolley stops and then take a trolley ride to the stadium. If you're attending sold out events, try to research alternative traffic routes. You can avoid I-15 to Friars Road as it's the most congested route to Qualcomm Stadium. Heavy traffic and major delays are expected four hours before an event.

To ease the pressure on ground parking at Qualcomm Stadium, four overflow parking areas are offered for overflow stadium traffic. Consider these parking options when the stadium parking lot becomes full.

- Mission City Corporate Center: It's located at 2365 Northside Drive and is just adjacent to the Qualcomm Stadium. You can take Friars Road west to Northside Drive. The parking fee is $30.

- Marriott Mission Valley: Parking is available on Rio San Diego Drive at a fee of $20. You can drive along Friars Road and exit Qualcomm Way to Rio San Diego Drive. After parking your vehicles there, take the San Diego Trolley to get to the stadium from Rio Vista Station.

- San Diego State University: When you're driving along I-8, take exit on College Avenue and continue to drive southbound. There're several designated paid visitor parking lots on campus. The parking rates vary with different locations. Then you can take the San Diego Trolley at the San Diego State University Transit Center to arrive at the stadium.

- Town and County Hotel: Overflow parking is available at Town and County Hotel for $15. Just proceed on Friars Road. Head west to pass through Fashion Valley Mall and exit Fashion Valley Road. Then you can ride a trolley bus at the Fashion Valley Station to have access to the stadium.
