- To the San Diego Zoo

1) From the North

If you're coming from Los Angeles or Orange County, take I-5 S and take exit 20 to merge onto CA-163 S toward Downtown. Then you're required to keep left at the fork and follow signs for University Avenue. Turn left on 9th Avenue and continue to make a left turn onto University Avenue. Proceed on and turn right onto Park Blvd. Veer to the right onto Zoo Drive and the San Diego Zoo will be on your right.

Visitors from Riverside and Escondido should drive along 1-15 S and turn right slightly on CA-163 S. Then you can take exit 2A toward Washington St. E and keep to the left at the fork. Head on and follow signs for University Drive and turn left onto 9th Avenue. Turn left onto University Avenue and keep on driving. When you come to the crossing, you need to turn right onto Park Blvd. Head north and the entrance to the zoo is located off Park Blvd at Zoo Place.

2) From the South

When you're driving from the south, like Mexico, you need to head northwest on I-5 N. Then you should take exit 16A to merge onto CA-163 N for Escondido. Continue on CA-163 A. Then the best route is to take exit 1C to continue onto Richmond Street toward Zoo-Museums exit. Switch to the right onto Upas Street and take the 1st right onto Park Blvd. Head on and take the 1st right onto Zoo Drive. The zoo entrance will be on your right.

3) From the East

Guests traveling from Imperia County or Arizona can head west on I-8 W toward exit 89. Then you should take exit 4A to take CA-163 S for Downtown San Diego. After merging onto CA-163 S, you should take exit 2A toward Washington Street E. When you come to the fork, keep left and follow the road signs for University Avenue. Turn to your left and merge onto University Avenue. Drive along University Avenue and turn right onto Park Blvd. Drive for 0.6 miles and turn right onto Zoo Drive. You'll see the zoo entrance on the right side.

If you're coming from the east and driving along CA-94, you need to head west on CA-94 W. Take exit 1A to merge onto I-5 N toward Los Angeles. Drive along I-5 N and then you need to take exit 16A to merge onto CA-163 N for Escondido. Proceed on CA-163 N and take exit 1C to merge onto Richmond Street for Zoo-Museums exit. Make a right onto Upas Street and turn right on Park Blvd at the first crossing. Then you should take the 1st right onto Zoo Drive.

- To the San Diego Zoo Safari Park

1) From the North

Orange County and Los Angeles visitors can take I-5 S toward San Diego. Proceed on and you need to take exit 51B to merge onto CA-78 E. Continue to drive along CA-78 E and make a right onto State Route 78 E. Turn left onto E Washington Avenue and continue to turn right onto N Ash Street. Keep on driving along San Pasqual Valley Road and the Safari Park will be on the left.

Northern visitors from Riverside should drive southbound on I-15 S. Head on and take exit 32 to merge onto CA-78 E toward Ramona. Turn right onto N Broadway and continue to turn left onto E Washington Avenue. Please turn to the left onto N Ash Street and continue onto San Pasqual Valley Road. The Safari Park is just on your left side.

2) From the South

When you're traveling from southern destinations, like Downtown San Diego or Mission Valley, you need to take CA-163 N to merge onto I-15 N. Continue to drive on I-15 N and take exit 27 for Via Rancho Pkwy toward San Diego Wild Animal Park. Switch to the right onto E Via Rancho Pkwy and continue onto Bear Valley Pkwy S. Take the 1st right onto San Rancho Pkwy and continue to make a right onto San Pasqual Valley Road.

If you're starting from Mexico, just take I-5 N or I-805 N. Drive north to merge onto CA-163 N toward Escondido. Continue to drive and merge onto I-15 N and then you can follow the same directions of Downtown.

3) From the East

For guests coming from the east, like Arizona and Imperia County, you need to drive westbound on I-8 W toward Exit 45. Take exit 17 for Magnolia Avenue toward Downtown. Then you need to take exit 17B to merge onto CA-67 N toward Santee and continue to take exit 2 toward Prospect Avenue. Merge onto CA-52 W and then you're required to take exit 17 to merge onto 1-15 N. Keep on driving and take exit 27 for Via Rancho Pkwy toward Felicita Park. Turn to right at the intersection of E Via Rancho Pkwy and continue onto Bear Valley Pkwy S. Make a right turn onto San Pasqual Road and head on Via Rancho Pkwy. Turn to the right and continue onto San Pasqual Valley Road.

The San Diego Zoo is open 7 days a week even during holidays so you're assured to see your most favorite animals here any day of the week throughout the year but you have to be aware that the open hours change depending on the season. During Fall, it's only open from 9 in the morning to 5 in the afternoon and during summer from 9 to 9 in the evening but from September to October it's open from 9 am to 6 pm. If this would confuse you a bit then the best thing to do is come here during the day and not wait til almost night time to come so you could enjoy hours and hours of fun without worrying about the zoo's closing time.
