It's time to face the blooding fact that numerous young lives have been lost due to illegal street racing each year. To end the tragedy, Race Legal program was put forward in 1988 by Dr. Stephen J. Bender from San Diego State University. And it's financially supported by the California Office of Traffic Safety. To ensure the safety of racers and their fans, Race Legal has replicated a safer, sanctioned and youth-oriented street environment which proves to be remarkably effective. In 2003, an impressive 99% reduction in illegal street racing as well as a 79% improvement in crash mortality caused by illegal street racing was achieved by the city of San Diego.

As a long-term tenant of Qualcomm Stadium, Race Legal is striving to build at least 12 alternative tracks at San Diego's Qualcomm Stadium so as to end illegal street racing. The west side parking lot portion of Qualcomm Stadium is the event site designated for Race Legal races. It can be easily accessed from the main Qualcomm Stadium gate. The admission fees are $8 for spectators and $30 for racers. Kids aging 5 and under are free to get into.
