Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego: A Perfect Place for Art Enthusiasts
The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego is an art museum of California built in 1941. It is 23000 square foot structure designed by internationally acclaimed architects who worked with Miami firm to create an exquisite space to experience art. Its main concentration is on the collection, preservation, interpretation and exhibition of art works from 1950 to present.
Though this place is small, it contains both knowledge and entertainment. It always presents something new each month in order to avoid boredom of the regular visitors. It has collection of videos, installation, photos, paintings etc which is included in contemporary work. The videos are exploratory and grab the attention of visitors.
Its outdoor art court is used for hosting parties and special events in great setups and very recently with support of Vanity Fair it started Art Basel. Many shows are conducted in this place by bands like Sympathy for the Devil etc. Many movies, lectures and workshops are conducted which include some for kids. Art summer camp is also organized for children.
It is helping in discovering new artists and learning about our living cultural heritage. Along with the active exhibition schedule, it is presenting 8 to 10 exhibitions every year. It has got moveable walls, clerestory windows, metal barrel vault, butterfly roof houses and concrete walls. It has got brilliant curators who really care a lot about the displayed exhibits.
This San Diego museum has got fund of $40 million and it needs $6 million for maintenance. Annually it is supported by corporations, foundations, government agencies etc. It offers affordable membership of $30 for students, artist and teachers. This place can be suggested for both visitors and residents.
