
Cabrillo National Monument
Dedicated on October 13, 1913, Cabrillo National Monument occupies a place of 160 acres. A heroic statue of Cabrillo looks out over the bay, being a must see attraction of travel San Diego.
The statue was originally designed for the Portuguese government by the sculptor named Alvarado de Breeand. And then in 1939, it was donated to United States where it had created a historic name to the statue. The monument is about 7 feet tall and weights up to 6 tons.
Cabrillo national monument is also an important tourist spot at San Diego. It will be opened on seven days a week, 365 days a year. The Cabrillo national monument functions from morning 9 am to 5:15 pm.
Lots of wonderful moments can be watched inside the Cabrillo national monument park. Old point Loma light house is one of such parts. All people will be taken guided to watch this spot.
There are three wonderful different exhibit rooms. During winter season, wonders of tide pools can be watched, while winter days are filled with low tides. Inside the auditorium, slide shows or films are always on. Histories about the monument or some other important slide shows are telecasted for people who own interests to know about.
There is a tower present in the light house which is basically not allowed to be watched by public. However, it is opened for two days a year - August 25th, the national park service birthday and November 15th, the light house anniversary. So tourist people, who are visiting on these days, never miss this event.
There are also special activities for kids too. Stop first at the Visitor Center to pick up a Junior Ranger activity. Once completed, they will be brought back to the Visitor Center, where a Park Ranger will check the answers and award a Junior Ranger badge.
Some tourist people bring their pets along with them for the tour. In such cases, you must be aware that this Cabrillo national monument allows no pets except in the coastal area. Working animals such as guide dogs are exempted.
