San Diego State University (SDSU) was established in the year 1897 and operates under the California University System. It is the oldest university in the city imparting education to students interested in higher learning. The student body of San Diego State University constitutes around 29,256 students. SDSU offers special topic classes, service learning classes, distance learning, online classes as well honors and evening classes to students.

SDSU offers Bachelor's, Master's and Doctorate degree programs to students in 151 different disciplines. The Doctorate degrees are awarded in the form of Ed.D, Ph.D and Au.D in 16 disciplines. Education is imparted through the different schools and colleges under this University. The colleges include College of Education, College of Arts & Letters, College of Engineering, College of Business Administration, College of Extended Studies, College of Sciences, College of Health & Human Services and College of Professional Studies & Fine Arts.
There are several libraries, observatories and laboratories in the campus for the students. The media center inside the SDSU campus publishes several magazines, journals, books and newspapers with the purpose of spreading knowledge. The university students indulge in extracurricular activities including sports. The football, soccer, ice hockey, baseball, basketball, volleyball teams participate in various sporting events throughout the year. SDSU is a member of National Collegiate Athletic Association. The teams of SDSU are known as Aztecs.
The students at SDSU are also part of campus organizations and Greek clubs including Andres Bonifacio Samahan, Hindu Yuva, Kappa Sigma, Phi Iota Alpha and Delta Zeta. SDSU offers a transit facility to its students through the trolleys at the underground station of San Diego Trolley's Green Line. The university provides career assistance/counseling to students as well.
